Sermon: The Three Loves of the Disciple

The phrase is used numerous times in scripture, indicating the importance of listening to, heeding and obeying Christ and His word.
Jesus Christ was murdered. His killers perpetrated a great crime on humanity. The question is, who killed Jesus? Was it the Romans? The Jews? You and I?
God has standards, or measurements that He demands we follow as we seek to please Him in our service. If we submit to His standards, rather than seeking to establish our own, we will secure for ourselves standing with Him.
It is clear that our destiny is dependent upon the life that we live in service to the Master. Remember Paul’s warning, “For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8:13).
The plethora of scandals ever present in the news show the lack of integrity, conviction and morality that exists in the world today. Sex, gambling, corruption and man’s inhumanity to man are the norm rather than the exception.
Satan’s greatest weapon against us is deception. As we grow familiar with sin, it becomes possible to deceive ourselves into thinking is isn’t a big deal!

In 1 Corinthians 12;12-ff, the apostle Paul indicates that we as Christians are diverse members of the one body. With Christ as head, we each do our part to edify the body as we give heed to Him.
It is important that a local church grow spiritually and numerically, but it is equally important that such growth be the byproduct of submitting to God’s will. Collectively and individually we have responsibilities we must fulfill as a precursor to growth.
God ordained that sexual activity is acceptable only in the marriage relationship. In that same chapter Paul exhorted the man and his wife to show sexual affection regularly, “that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self control” (vs. 5). The activity of the priests is criminal, and without justification on the part of the individual. But, the Catholic church is complicit and responsible because of it’s man-made doctrine.
The account of Saul’s conversion is unique in many ways because it involves not only his conversion, but also his appointment as an apostle. However, Saul had to do what all have to do in order to receive the forgiveness of his sins.
