Sermon: What Am I Worth To God?
Sunday, September 30th, 2007I may be a sinner, and unworthy of God’s love and mercy, but he still values me, and desires that I serve him acceptably, that I may attain an eternity in His presence.

The better way of gauging the relative strength of a church is by determining whether the congregation has the characteristics of the church as revealed in the New Testament. There are terms such as “body”, “family”, “temple”, “kingdom”, “bride”, that establish principles which are the foundation of strength among God’s people.
The question is asked and answered. Does the pardon of the thief on the cross have a bearing on whether we must be baptized in order to be saved?
The fallacy of the social gospel (in addition to its being decidedly unscriptural) is the idea that you can bring people to Christ by appealing to them where they are! The way to conversion is to convict men of their sin! “Now when they heard this [the gospel], they were cut to the heart” (Acts 2:37).
For those saved, there is truly “Plus Ultra”… More Beyond!
The spiritual man is renewed through the preaching of the gospel of Christ. The mission of the Lord’s church is to spread that word throughout the world. The practice of hospitality, as described in the New Testament, is the responsibility of the individual Christian, not the church.
In the same way redemption is found in the New Covenant, not the Old. The New Covenant of Christ is to be preferred to the Old. We are to cast off the Old, just as the scripture says, “Cast out the bondwoman and her son.” As Paul wrote, “So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.”
Guest Speaker: Keith Greer. There is an eternal principle that remains true in every age. Succinctly stated, God speaks, Man believes, Man obeys, God saves.
While the particulars of God’s message may change, the principle remains. This is certainly true with regard to God ordained worship.

In his second epistle, Peter (1:12-15) emphasizes the need to stir up the brethren by reminding them of things they knew. There is the same need today to remind the brethren of things known, to equip and strengthen them in the faith.
Becoming a child of God is described as being “born again.” It is the beginning of a new life, not the end. As such, the Bible continually admonishes the Christian to continue steadfastly in his life for Christ.
While the world becomes more and more enthralled with immodesty, pornography and lust; as Christians we must “flee youthful lusts” (cf. 2 Timothy 2:22).
Churches of Christ should preach the gospel, and edify the brethren. That is the mission given the Lord’s church in scripture. That is the limited mandate she is to fulfill. Faith and football? I don’t think so!
Committment and self-examination are important in successfully applying the truth of God’s word successfully in our lives.
The phrase “hold fast” is used numerous times in the New Testament, teaching us the necessity to be steadfast in our pursuit of God’s Word, and the hope of Heaven.
