In The News: Democrats on Gay Issues

inthenewsLOS ANGELES (AP) – Democratic presidential contenders faced pointed questions on gay marriage and the basis for sexual orientation in a forum that forced candidates to confront politically touchy issues that have vexed a nation.

Former Sen. John Edwards found himself discussing whether he is comfortable around gay people – he said he is. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson appeared to struggle with a question about why people become gay or lesbian. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton ended up defending the record of her husband, former President Clinton, on gay rights.

“We certainly didn’t get as much done as I would have liked,” the New York senator said. “But there was a lot of honest effort.”

Six of the eight Democratic candidates answered questions Thursday on gay rights at the two-hour forum co-sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, a gay-rights group active in Democratic politics, and Logo, a gay-oriented cable TV channel that aired the forum live.

Organizers said it marked the first time that major presidential candidates appeared on TV specifically to address gay issues. The candidates appeared one at a time in an upholstered chair on a Hollywood studio set and took questions from a panel that included singer Melissa Etheridge.

Analysis:

It is interesting that Democratic candidates are scared witless by the pro homosexual lobby. It is also a bit scary that such a small minority has such a strong influence on national politics.

The only thing that the Democrats can agree upon with regard to the homosexual agenda is that it needs to be advanced, and that the Republicans who oppose the agenda are bad people.

Bill Richardson doesn’t know whether homosexuals are born that way, or make the choice to live the lifestyle. The Bible clearly reveals that homosexuality is a sin, and those who choose to so sin risk condemnation (cf. Romans 1:24-32).

Barack Obama is not sure whether it is in the best interest of the nation to approve gay marriage. He is, though, fully in favor of legal equal rights for homosexual unions. The Bible clearly reveals that marriage is a union exclusively between a man and woman (Genesis 2:24); and that all other sexuality activity is condemned (Hebrews 13:4).

Hillary Clinton was not sure if homosexuality is immoral back in March of this year, but after receiving criticism from homosexual activists, recently admitted she made a mistake in equivocating, and now proclaims that it is not! The Bible clearly reveals that homosexuality is an abomination before God (Leviticus 20:13).

What is very clear is that many of our nations leaders and potential leaders love “the praise of men more than the praise of God” (cf. John 12:43). But, regardless what men say, “let God be true, but every man a liar” (cf. Romans 3:4).
