I remember when researchers supposedly discovered what was claimed to be a “gay gene.” It was all over the news, and trumpeted to such an extent by homosexual activists that it is now commonly believed that homosexuals “do not choose” their lifestyle.
Of course, it wasn’t true. As the researcher who supposedly discovered the “gay gene” noted, “Homosexuality is not purely genetic… environmental factors play a role. There is not a single master gene that makes people gay….I don’t think we will ever be able to predict who will be gay” (Dean Hamer).
Another untrue claim is that homosexuals make up about 10% of the population. This number is based upon a 1948 survey by Dr. Alfred Kinsey. The Kinsey report was flawed in several ways, chief among them the fact that the sample used in the survey included a disproportionate number of prison inmates and sexual offenders. The findings have been refuted time and again by other surveys. The myth continues, as homosexual activists continue to promote the 10% figure.
In light of this, it was not surprising that the recent findings of a survey released in March by the National Center for Health Statistics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was largely ignored by the media. The survey is titled Sexual Behavior, Sexual Attraction, and Sexual Identity in the United States: Data From the 2006–2008 National Survey of Family Growth. This prestigious and thorough federal study revealed that only 1.4% of Americans identify themselves as homosexual.
Further, it clearly showed homosexual activity to be more a matter of lifestyle than genetics. Consider the following analysis of the data, from columnist Michael Medved:
Moreover, even among those who describe themselves as homosexual or bisexual (a grand total of 3.7% of the 18-44 age group), overwhelming majorities (81%) say they’ve experienced sex with partners of the opposite gender. Among those who call themselves heterosexual, on the other hand, only a tiny minority (6%) ever engaged in physical intimacy of any kind with a member of the same sex. These figure indicate that 94% of those living heterosexual lives felt no physical attraction to members of the same sex, but the great bulk of self-identified homosexuals and bisexuals feel enough intimate interest in the opposite gender to engage in erotic contact at some stage in their development.
The clear impact of these figures have led some leaders among homosexual activists to acknowledge the truth. Brad Sears, of the Williams Institute (a “gay think tank” well respected among homosexual activists) said that homosexual leaders should “let go” of the inflated figures quoted in the past. He continued to say that, “with other populations of a similar size of 2% to 4%, we don’t question whether there are too many or too few.”
So, homosexual activists have continued to lie to us, stating that homosexuals have no choice regarding their orientation, and that 10% of the population is gay. They told these lies in order to further their agenda, and convince people that homosexuality should be accepted as an alternate lifestyle, and a natural and impelled aspect of their existence. It is to the point that most of the world’s population believe the lies.
But now, though the basis of the claims is clearly seen to be illegitimate, most continue to accept the discredited premise, and continue to advocate the acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle. The title of Medved’s article , quoted above, is Does it matter if only 1.4% of people are gay? To begin the article, he states, “The results of this scientific research shouldn’t undermine the hard-won respect recently achieved by gay Americans, but they do suggest that choice and change play larger roles in sexual identity than commonly assumed.”
Yes, it should undermine such respect! The respect was not only hard won, but won in a duplicitous manner! It is all a lie! As the Bible clearly reveals, the choice to engage in homosexual sex is aberrant (“an abomination”, cf. Leviticus 20:13). Those who practice such sin, as well as those who approve of them, “knowing the righteous judgment of God … are deserving of death” (Romans 1:32).
