Psalm 27 has the caption (in my Bible) “An Exuberant Declaration of Faith.” The description is accurate, as the psalmist declares his complete faith and trust in the Almighty.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?” (1)
“One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That I will seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.” (4)“Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice!
Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
when You said, ‘Seek My face,’
My heart said to You, ‘Your face, Lord, I will seek’.” (7-8)“Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He will strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!” (14)
Wait on the Lord. That is a difficult thing to do. We chafe at the passage of time, especially when things are not as we desire them to be. It is hard for us to accept that God works in His own time. But, we have sufficient precedent to know that all will be fine in the end.
Our circumstance today is rather unique. Our entire nation is in the same pickle. We are concerned about our own health, and the health of those we love. We sit in front of the TV, marking the spread of the virus, and wondering if and when it will invade our house. The Christian’s perspective, however, differs from those who have no hope. The Psalmist said, “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (13).
This is what we all should do. “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He will strengthen your heart; Wait I say, on the Lord!“ (14).
