The Bible defines the concept of love, not as a mere profession, but as active good will toward others. We are to love first, our God; next, our fellow men; and finally, have the proper type of love for ourselves.

Whether it be the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, the imperfect knowledge of Christ exhibited by Saul, The Eunuch and Cornelius prior to their exposure to the gospel of Christ, or the Lukewarmness of the Laodiceans, just being “religious” does not guarantee salvation.

The Bible is very clear concerning allegiances. Either one is for God or against God. This not only defines ones association, but also his eternal standing. The friend, servant, wise, who gives allegiance to God is saved; the enemy, foolish individual is lost.

Paul’s letter to the Philippians, though penned under difficult circumstances, resonates with the joy Paul had in his fellowship with the Philippians in the preaching of the gospel, and their common heritage as the redeemed. It teaches us that there is reason to rejoice in our faith, regardless of the circumstances of life.

Hebrews 11:6 affirms that biblical faith consists not only of an assent to the existence of God, but also confidence that God rewards the obedient. This teaches us that the doctrine of faith only is deficient. Faith working together with obedience justifies man.

The Holy Scriptures, inspired of God, are versatile. They supply each man whatever is needed to convict, rebuke, correct or instruct him in the way he should go. Different men may need different things from scripture, but it is able to supply each with whatever is needful for their salvation.

Israel disobeyed God after the destruction of Jericho, as Achan took of the accursed things. Israel’s defeat at the hands of the small city of Ai teaches us that God’s acceptance is contingent upon our righteousness and obedience. There are lessons to be learned from this text (Joshua 7).

The text of Luke 12:4-7 teaches two great lessons. That man should fear God; and, that the soul of man is of great value. This sermon deals with those two major points.
