Subject: Discipleship
The sermon shows that we must walk in integrity (cf. Psalm 26:11) toward ourselves, others, and ultimately, God.
Conflict both within and without the church is unable to thwart God in His purpose. It is futile to fight against God!
Discipleship requires sacrifice on the part of the follower. This is especially true as we consider what our Lord expects from us! It is worth the effort to examine, what kind of followers are we?
Before His ascension, Jesus told His apostles, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). The mark of discipleship is obedience to the teacher. If we are disciples of Christ, it is because we have embraced His teaching, and we “observe” or obey what He commands. The preeminent command of our Lord is to love. Jesus said to His disciples, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35).

We all must make choices in our lives. Ultimately, our eternal destiny depends upon taking the narrow and difficult path that leads to life. The lesson discusses several questions all must ask themselves at one time or another, including:
Invitation delivered by: Darren Johnson
One thing common to all Olympic athletes is that they practiced continually and diligently in order to become the best athletes they possibly could be. Darren points out, using passages such as 2 Peter 1:5-11, the importance of practicing the Christian faith. As we do so, we grow and mature, and benefit from God’s blessings.
The Phrase “A personal relationship with God” is used often today. Unfortunately it is sometimes used to mean something other than what God requires for such a relationship. Such a relationship requires contact, spending time together, trust and nurturing.
We must overcome the temptation to put anything before our Christ. If we put Christ first, we will attend worship, give purposefully and liberally, study His word, zealously and tirelessly work in His vineyard, pray often and share the good news with others.
The sermon examines the service Elisha rendered to Elijah, as recorded in 2 Kings 2. He exhibited qualities of a good servant. These attributes of Elisha can be used to establish what constitutes good discipleship in our service to Jesus.

Friends stick close to one another, sacrifice for each other, are loyal to, and have faith in one another. Using these things as parameters, this lesson asks the question, “Am I a Friend to Jesus?”
