Subject: Remission

In our final lesson in the study of Jesus’ words in John’s gospel, we recount the conversation Jesus had with Peter in John 21:15-25

The idea that there are things a man must do to be saved, some people contend to be a product of the legalistic theology of the 19th century. This lesson is a defense of the what the scriptures teach regarding the salvation of man.
Consider the following two sentences:
“For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins” (Matthew 26:28).
“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).
Both sentences contain the exact same phrase, “for the remission of sins.” However, the two sentences are perceived differently by a large majority of the religious world. Why? And is the distinction in perception valid?

The blood of Jesus Christ was shed to redeem us, giving us the remission of our sins, and serving as purchase price for the church. It is possible to count is common or unclean by living willfully rather than in accord with God’s word.
