In The News: A Philandering Tiger
Just about everyone knows who Tiger Woods is. He is the most famous golfer, and perhaps the most famous athlete in the world. He has also become one of the most infamous athletes due to being a serial philanderer.
Numerous women have been linked to him. Despite initial denials it was obvious that he had been unfaithful to his wife on numerous occasions with multiple mistresses. When denials proved futile, he finally admitted his infidelity, and has taken a sabbatical from golf to try to save his marriage, and regain the trust of his wife.
Sermon: Obstacles to a Relationship with God
The Sermon points out, It isn’t possible to have a relationship with God:
- If you don’t know about Him.
- If you refuse to Repent.
- If you neglect Obedience.
- If you reject Jesus Christ.
- If you don’t listen to, or talk to Him.
Stated Positively: If you will seek to learn about God and know Him; if you will acknowledge your sin and repent; let faith and love produce obedience; trust in Christ, listen to God and pray to Him — You can enjoy a relationship with your Creator, that begins here on earth and is consummated in eternity.

Sermon: I Speak This to Your Shame
In 1 Corinthians 15, the Apostle admonished the Corinthians who did not believe in the resurrection, indicating they should be ashamed. It is the purpose of preaching and admonition to shame individuals who are in sin. We all should be ashamed when we:
- Participate in Ungodliness
- Lack Knowledge
- Uphold Those Who Teach Error

In The News: Founded on the Rock
Last Monday President Obama delivered a speech on the economy at Georgetown University. In the speech, he was asking the American people to be patient as his administration seeks to deal with a sluggish economy, and to change the “foundation” upon which the economy rests. Notice the following quote, as reported by the Associated Press:
“We cannot rebuild this economy on the same pile of sand,” he said, invoking a Biblical reference to Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. “We must build our house upon a rock. We must lay a new foundation for growth and prosperity a foundation that will move us from an era of borrow and spend to one where we save and invest, where we consume less at home and send more exports abroad.”
While some may have doubts as to whether his actions mirror his rhetoric, we will leave such discussions for a more appropriate forum. It is the purpose of this article to note the President’s reference to Jesus’ words.

Sermon: Admonition and Redemption
The two epistles of Paul to the Corinthians establish the pattern of fall and restoration before God. In 1 Corinthians, the apostle spends the majority of his letter admonishing the Corinthians for sin. In the second epistle a substantial portion of the letter is taken up in describing the Corinthian’s repentance and redemption.

Mining The Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 7:8-12
2 Corinthians 7:8-12
The apostle’s words here give us a wonderful example of the attitude that should be present in a Christian when convicted of sin.
Paul wrote concerning the various failings of the Corinthians, documenting many in his first epistle to that church. Verse 12 seems to indicate that Paul had specifically in mind their treatment of the immoral man in 1 Corinthians 5. They had tolerated his sin rather than withdrawing their fellowship from him, as Paul had commanded them.
But, at Paul’s instruction they had repented. Godly sorrow, as they were convicted of their sin, led them to repent. Such sorrow was strong, and led to indignation (toward themselves), and zeal (to prove their repentance). As a result of this profound change of heart regarding their sin, Paul stated, “In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter” (vs. 11). May we all show the same sorrow at our own transgressions.
Mining The Scriptures: Luke 13:1-5
Luke 13:1-5
A careful reading of Luke, chapters 11—13 shows that our Lord’s teaching to his disciples and the multitudes was anything but soft.
Jesus plainly and severely rebuked the sin of the people. He admonished them for hypocrisy, unfaithfulness and inhumanity toward one another.
It is believed that the first five verses of Luke 13 are an attempt by some to divert the Lord’s attention from their own sins, to the sins of others. Though we don’t know who the “Galileans” were that suffered death at the hands of the Romans, Jesus clearly states that their sin is no worse than that of his hearers. His admonition, given in verse 3 and verse 5 is a stern warning to anyone of us who might seek to excuse ourselves by comparing ourselves to those we believe to be worse than we. Jesus said, “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”
Sermon: Gospel Meeting Sermons (Scott Gilmore)
Since we have waited until the meeting was over to upload the sermon files, I am going to include all five sermons by brother Scott Gilmore in a single post. Note: At this time the powerpoint files are not available, but will be uploaded in a few days.

Sermon: God’s Second Law of Pardon
God requires that all men become obedient to the gospel of Christ, repenting of their sins, and being baptized for the remission of those sins. But what about the child of God who sins? What does God require of him to be reconciled? Acts 8 answers that question.

We Do Not Know…
It was F.B. Meyer, I believe, who once said that when we see a brother or sister in sin, there are two things we do not know: First, we do not know how hard he or she tried not to sin. And second, we do not know the power of the forces that assailed him or her. We also do not know what we would have done in the same circumstances.
Stephen Brown, Christianity Today, April 5, 1993, p. 17.
The point is not to ignore or tolerate the sin of a brother. Paul admonished the Corinthians for their acceptance of immorality into the church, (cf. 1 Corinthians 5), and instructed them to “deliver such a one to Satan.”
However, that same individual, upon his repentance, received Paul’s pity. “Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him” (2 Corinthians 2:8).
Our approach to the sinner should be one of humility and compassion, even as we seek to discipline him in his sin. “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted” (Galatians 6:1).
Podcast: Slipping on the “EIS”
Podcast Number 46
Does the text in Acts 2:38 indicate that we are baptized because our sins are forgiven, or in order to receive the forgiveness of sins. Context and a word study indicate that “for the remission of sins” indicates that repentance and baptism are necessary for salvation!

King David was an adulterer and a murderer. Still, the Bible calls David a man “after God’s own heart”. How could this be?

Sermon: “Go and Sin No More”
John chapter 8 records a conversation between Jesus and a woman caught in adultery. Jesus showed mercy to the woman, conditioned upon her repentance. This teaches us the importance of turning away from ungodliness, and to serve the living God.
