COVID-19 (15) Mr. Lonely
This article was inspired by an online Bible study by one of our members, Dennis Craig. His lesson was titled Learning the Value of Solitude. It was a great help to our members who are observing the shelter in place guidelines from local and state government.
Bobby Vinton wrote a song in the late 1950’s after being drafted into the military. He spent two years serving domestically, and wrote Mr. Lonely which later became a number one hit when released in 1964. Here are the lyrics, which more accurately describe a soldier sent overseas.
Obscure Sorrows
I recently came across a list of 23 terms that describe emotions that are rather obscure. You may feel them, but without these terms have a hard time describing them. If you are like me, you have only heard of a few of these words. Not all apply to spiritual considerations, but these few might be instructive.
Sermon: Sorrow for Sin
You cannot experience the joy of salvation unless you have felt the proper sorrow for your sins. One purpose of preaching is to bring sorrow to the sinner, that he might repent.
Sermon: Blotted Out
The phrase “blotted out” occurs on several occasions in scripture. Interesting lessons can be learned by examining its use. What God blots out remains obliterated for as long as He wills it.
Sermon: Dwelling in the House of Mourning
Sermon by Marc Smith.
In the lesson, given in the special class on Wednesday morning, Marc gives comfort by explaining the process of mourning, and giving the child of God help in dealing with the grief one experiences at the loss of loved ones. (Note: the first 5-8 minutes of the lesson were not recorded. Also, the lesson was recorded from a loudspeaker rather than directly from Marc himself, so the audio suffers a bit).
