Mining the Scriptures: Hebrews 10:19-23

Since Christ served as a sufficient once for all sacrifice for humanity, everything has changed. Where access to the Father was limited under the old covenant, Christians can boldy approach the Father today. Access was limited to the Most Holy Place in the tabernacle. Our prayers go right to God’s throne through the mediation of Christ (cf. Revelation 5:8).

Since Jesus is our High Priest, granting this access, there are several points made in verses 22-23. Our faith grants us confidence (full assurance) to draw near to God. This is grace, what He has done for us.

Our entrance into God’s fellowship “bodies washed with pure water” (Galatians 3:27) means that our cleansing is not merely the purification of the flesh, but actual and true forgiveness of sin “our hearts sprinkled from and evil conscience.”

Our confidence in our relationship, because of God’s person, His gift, and His promises, should be complete, “our hope without wavering.” It is important to note again this true basis of our changed and heightened relationship with God. It is because “He who promised is faithful”!
