From the Preacher’s Pen: Moral Cause and Effect

There are many passages in scripture which reveal the principle of cause and effect. This is true with the life you live on earth, but is especially true regarding your eternal standing with God.

Consider the following two passages that illustrate this truth. The first from Paul’s pen, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7). He follows with two contrasting ends, “he who sows to his flesh will reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life” (8).

The other passage, from the book of Proverbs, “He who sows iniquity will reap sorrow, and the rod of his anger will fail” (22:8). A sinful life is vain. What seems fulfilling ultimately is like a crop of green stalks that do not produce fruit. Or like one whose rod is used to beat and prod breaking in his hand. It is common for the worldly to think their lives to be full and effective. This is an effective lie that Satan tells. It is an illusion.

Remember the principle of moral cause and effect. Forgetting it will cost you your soul! “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that we may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Cor. 5:10).
