Sermons Preached at West Side. Outlines, PPT Presentations and Audio files

Moses exhorted the Israelites to “remember the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 8:18). Remembering is important, as we are to be mindful of the past, the present and the future as a means of preparing us for eternity.

Three points are made in the lesson:

The Lord’s church is very different from the religious denominations you typically see in America. This sermon discusses some of the things that makes the church of Christ unique.

The text of James 1:21-25 supplies thoughts regarding the 1) Importance of knowing how we look to God; 2) Importance of improving our spiritual appearance; and 3) God’s word is the only reliable mirror to determine how we appear to God.

As our faith grows, and with it we mature spiritually, it enables us in various ways. It gives us the ability to: 1) Discern good and evil; 2) Resist temptation; 3) Forgive; 4) Deal with those who oppose the truth; 5) Cope with physical decline; and 6) Face death.

In the first century the church did not pander to the community, desperately seeking relevance or acceptance. Instead, the church proclaimed the gospel, infuriating some and saving others.

The most important of our responsibilities is toward the eternal God of Heaven, our creator and the author of our redemption. We should worship, fear, obey & love Him with all our heart, soul, strength and mind.

The Jews of Jeremiah’s day had no shame, they had forgotten how to blush (cf. Jeremiah 6:11-15; 8:8-12). God’s people need to know how to blush. A sense of shame will help to protect and correct in areas such as conduct, speech and appearance.

The Christian has the responsibility to be hospitable, to see unity with fellow believers, to edify his brethren and to love them as well.

The children of Israel failed to believe in the power of God to bring them victory against the giants who inhabited the land they had been promised.
We need to trust in God to give us the victory against the spiritual “giants” that oppose us.

The Christian has the responsibility to be a good citizen, to be a good influence, to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to be a good neighbor to those who are in the world.
