Spring Meeting 2014: Kyle Campbell
(Note: The first 12 minutes of this lesson were not recorded, the remaining 34 minutes have audio that is reduced in quality, though still very understandable).
The 7 habits discussed by Kyle:
* (Was covered in the first 12 minutes, so not recorded)
Like Esau, who despised his birthright for a morsel of food, Christians can sell or despise their inheritance by choosing the world and its pleasures for eternity.
The lesson shows how God chose to create the universe, and place man, a free moral agent, in it as its crown. Men chose to disobey, but God sent His son to redeem mankind.
The sermon uses the novel approach of identifying some untrue but common views about repentance to show what it isn’t, thereby clarifying what it actually is.
Using the first chapter of 1 Samuel, which records the prayer of Hannah, we learn the importance of fervency and persistency in prayer, that prayer must be in faith, and that God answers our prayers.
The sermon contrasts what the Bible teaches about Noah and the worldwide flood, and what the newly released movie purports him to be. Also discussed is the Christian’s proper response to the movie.
Our lives are comfortable, and in such comfort there is the danger of forgetting God, of trusting in ourselves and what we own, and in indulging ourselves in excess and sin.
The significance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and what it accomplished for men.
The sermon discusses the text of Matthew 14:22-33, and lessons learned (such as the power of faith, and the worthiness of Jesus as Lord and object of our worship).
If God said it, that settles it, and we had better believe it. God is sovereign, and His will must be obeyed. Psalm 119:89 says, “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.”
