Subject: Deity of Christ

In John 10:22-39, Jesus was accused of blasphemy “because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.” The text affirms Christ’s deity, and explains the reason for the Jew’s rejection of Him. In Jesus’ defense, he quotes Psalm 82:6, “I said, you are gods” to show the Jew’s inconsistency in claiming Him to be guilty of blasphemy.

The first in a series of sermons following our Bible Class cirriculum.
What does the birth of Jesus mean to us?

In the previous verse, the apostle John affirmed that Jesus, the Word, came to earth and lived among us. He now states that John the Baptist testified that Jesus is indeed the Son of God (cf. vs. 34).
John the Baptist was the forerunner of Jesus, prophesied about in Isaiah 40:3, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord’” (vs. 23). His ministry heralded the coming of the Christ.
The apostle now affirms that we have received the unmerited favor of God in the sending of that Christ, Jesus (16). Just as Moses was the means through which God gave Israel His law, Jesus is the means through which God grants salvation by Grace (17). It is through Jesus that God is manifested to man. Without Jesus, we can not know God. With Him, all things are made clear, including His plans for our redemption.

Lesson 9: The Second Coming of Christ

The circumstances of Jesus’ birth are established forthrightly by Matthew and Luke. While modernists struggle with the concept of a child being born of a virgin, the believer accepts God’s intent, purpose and ability to bring this event about.
Matthew reveals the following in this short section of his gospel:
This account marks the beginning of the events leading to the ultimate redemption of mankind (cf. John 17:3).
Lesson 8 of 8 in a series on Awesome Texts.
In John 1, the apostle affirms that Jesus is the Eternal God, Who created the universe and everything in it, Who came to earth as a man, and Who became the Light of the world, declaring the Father, as the Savior of Mankind.
