Unity in the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12)

• A study of 1 Corinthians 12 explaining in the context of spiritual gifts, that the purpose of a unified spiritual body is edification. The Corinthians were to exercise their spiritual gifts to edify all, as they were united in loving care for one another.

• The lesson discusses the canon of scripture, and how it is obtained. The point is made that the church did not determine what books were conanical. Rather, they acknowledged what all understood to be true.

• Jesus indicated in Matthew 6 that we must forgive others if we wish to be forgiven. The lesson examines the obligation to forgive, and what to do if a person is unwilling to ask forgiveness of us.

Colossians 3:12 identifies Christians as the elect of God. The text reveals what the elect, or new man is to do in his new life as one accepted of God.

In Job 31:1, a “covenant” with the eyes is mentioned. By application, we submit that we should not look upon the darkness of sin, or lustful sights that might lead to adultery, alcohol use or the observance of irreverent things.

Colossians 3:1. “If then you were raised with Christ…” There is a consequence to our being raised with Christ. Things that are expected of us as a result of the blessing we have received from our Lord. We are to seek the things above, that are of Christ.

Deuteronomy 8:11-18. The text introduces the question, Is there room for God in your life? A comfortable life can be dangerous, as we forget God. Truly, we are sufficient only in God, because only God is sufficient!
